PRESS RELEASE

BDEF/BDIA Young Communicator of the Year Award 2017

L to R: Prof. Ken Eaton, Yasmin Allen, Sonia Tracey, David Westgarth

The BDIA is proud to have supported the British Dental Editors Forum (BDEF) Young Communicator Award once again this year. BDIA President, Sonia Tracey and BDEF Chair, Professor Kenneth A. Eaton, announced the 2017 winners at a recent presentation dinner at London’s prestigious RAF Club.

There were a high number of entries for 2017, covering communications across a variety of media and it was a tough job for this years’ judging panel. David Westgarth, Associate Editor of the BDJ Portfolio, took first place with his article on ‘Stress and Fitness to Practise’, published in the March 2017 issue of BDJ in Practice. Second place was awarded to Yasmin Allen, Clinical Fellow in Leadership at Health Education England, who wrote, edited and produced a video highlighting the benefits of using digital technology and innovation within dental settings.

David commented: “I’m delighted and honoured to have received the award. Stress is such an important issue across all healthcare professionals, and perhaps even more so in dentistry.

‘If the article prompted just one person to assess their state of mind, I would be delighted. The more we talk about stress, the more people will hopefully come forward.
